Real Madrid had to settle for a point as they were held to a goalless draw by last season’s Europa League winners Villarreal.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side had less of the possession and could only muster one shot on target throughout the 90 minutes during a lacklustre display.

The result means they are now three points clear at the top of LaLiga, though Sevilla could join them on 17 points should they win their game in hand.
